Japanese Gentleman Figurine

This is a nice balnc de chine figurine made by the Schwarzburger Werkstätten für Porzellankunst in the early 20th century when it was first designed. He was modeled by the famous Marta Schlameus in about 1913. She did quite a few pieces for this maker. Not sure about her history though. The figure is of a Japanese gentleman in traditional clothing and hairstyle. Just an amazing look in this white version. The colors often distract from their models and I love the Art Nouveau / Jugendstil pieces they made. He is superbly modeled in the typical style for this maker and period. Nice round base with the name of the designer impressed into the back - M.Schlameus. The figure is in good condition with the fingers on his right hand chipped but it is not obvious when on display as shown. He is 10.875 inches tall and the base is 4.125 inches in diameter. The figure is marked with the impressed fox mark as well as U50 for the model number underneath. So a fairly early peice for this maker. Also the impressed stamp stating Schwarzburger Werkstaetten fuer Porzellankunst. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $399
