Lion Cubs Playing

This is a figurine of a pair of lion cubs playing made by the Schwarzburger Werkstaetten around 1930. It was designed by Etha Richter who was one of the most important animal modelers of the Jugendstil / Art Deco period. The one is one top of the other that is lying down on his back. All on a rounded base. Again a very simple figurine yet so elegant. That is why these figurines are so collectable. The figurine is in great condition with a glaze line to the tail of the one standing up. The figurine is marked with the impressed fox mark as well as U. 1097. underneath. Also the impressed stamp Schwarzburger Werkstaetten fuer Porzellankunst. The piece is 5.5 inches tall, 5.375 inches wide and 4.625 inches deep.
