Barlach Farmer Figurine

This is an amazing and quite large figurine of a Russian farmer made by the Schwarzburger Werkstaetten in the early 20th century when it was first designed by Ernst Barlach . The artist travelled to Russia in 1906 for a few month where he met farmers, beggars, etc. which left a deep impression on him. His figures "speak" of hunger, suffering, death and the horrors of war but also of happiness, laughing and dancing. This figure here is of a farmer lying down - tired with his head resting on his fist. He is not comfortable or even recovering but more just plain exhausted from wokr and life in general. Barlach captured the roughness of a farmers life perfectly in one statue. Left in the white it speaks for itself and needs no color as it would only take away from the piece. Just a stunning and elegant figurine that is in perfect condition. The piece is pretty large being about 6 inches tall, 12.5 inches wide and about 7.25 inches deep. The figure is marked with the impressed fox mark as well as the impressed stamp stating Schwarzburger Werkstätten für Porzellankunst and the model number U63. initials AH as well as the impressed artist name on top of the base between his feet.
