Schlaggenwald Figurine

This is a rare figurine made by Schlaggenwald around 1840. One sees cup and plates by them from time to time but figurines are quite unusual to find especially from their earlier times. The figurine is obviously copied from a Meissen model with some surprising tweaks - the hat has a strap to it which the Meissen model did not - surprising since the copies usually have less detail not more. The figurine is of a lady with a sheep next to her, holding a birdcage in her right arm with a bird sticking out from it and a letter in her left hand - ready to be mailed via pigeon post :) The figurine is well modeled and painted - much more in the Paris region style than Meissen but that was typical for them. The figurine is in great condition with a firing crack that was painted over in her hat, the bridcage has a small firing crack in it and the bird was restored as was the door of the cage. The bird has lost his head again since then but it's not all that obvious. One strap of the pink bow on her back was restored as well. The figure is marked with the impressed S mark used from 1830 until 1870 as well as an impressed number 40 which is likely a year mark since they are known to have used them from time to time and a gilder's mark 39. in gold. There are also three lines incised into the glaze. The piece is 7 inches tall and the base is 2.75 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or photos.
