Sceaux Floral Cup

This is a rare cup made by Sceaux in the 18th century. A rare maker to find anything by so a missing saucer I could live with :) A faience factory was founded in Sceaux by von de Bey and Jacques Chapelle which probably started to produce soft paste porcelain around 1763 when Joseph Jullien and Charles-Symphorien Jacques bought the factory and managed to get the Duke of Penthievre as a patron. Production of porcelain ceased by the end of the 18th century and is very hard to find nowadys. It often closely resembles that of Mennecy which is the case here. The cup is made of soft paste porcelain and is hand painted with a large floral arrangement to one side and two single flowers to the other. Typical handle shape with some puce trim to it as well as the top edge. The cup is in superb condition with the usual manufacturing flaws associated with these early wares the worst being some extra grit stuck to the bottom edge in one spot as shown. The piece is marked with the incised SX mark as shown. The cup measures 2.625 inches tall and 2.625 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $399
