Kornilov Plate

This is a superb plate made at the Kornilov factory around 1900. The center is decorated with a nice scene from a Bilibin drawing featuring a young man, in this case a Russian prince who is looking for a pretty princess all over the world. During his journey he meets several animals in very difficult situations. He helps them and then the animals return the favors and help him reach the princess. This is one of the most important situation on this plate, when the great fish has been thrown out from the sea during the storm. The fish is asking for help and the prince throws the fish back to the sea after which the fish says: "Thank you, if you need my help, come to the sea anywhere all over the world, call me, and I will come." The rim is has a nice design of trees alternating with hexagons with animals in them. Nice gold trim to the rim. The plate is in perfect condition. It is marked as shown in the photo with the Bear and the words Made in Russia by Kornilow Bros. Also signed in the back 170. Bil 11. by Bilibin. It is a nice 10.25 inches in diameter and 1.125 inches tall. This piece belongs to a good friend of mine. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
