Royal Vienna Type Scenic Tray

This is a really nice tray made by one of the many factories copying the Royal Vienna beehive / shield mark. This one was made in the late 19th century in Austria or possibly Germany ! The piece is nicely modeled with a reticulated edge all around highlighted with gilding, a superb maroon ground color around the edge of the flat part highlighted with lots of golding some of which is raised, four round medallions of a light blue ground color with more gilding to them and some nice gold and dark blue trim. The best part however is the central hand painted scene of lots of putti / naked young boys carrying fruit in a landscape surrounding. The scene is of top quality with lots of fine details to it. The original painting this is after was done by Peter Paul Rubens and is called Der Fruechtekranz and was located at the Pinakothek in Munich. Now there is a new Pinakothek and and old one. Not sure if the painting still resides there given that we had some world wars since this piece here was painted. Oddly enough the scene is not signed. It is a very elegant and decorative piece and I ahve not seen a tray in this style before. A very popular style with collectors! The tray is in great condition with a touch of wear to the gilding mainly to the light blue colored design at the bottom. It is 12.75 inches wide, 10.375 inches deep and 1 inch tall so a great size! It is marked with the blue shield / beehive mark underneath as well as impressed number 85 and the title of the scene and info on the original painting as shown.
