Alexander & Apelles Scene Plate

This is a nice scenic or picture plate made by Royal Vienna in 1798. The center has a nice scene of Alexander the Great sitting with a lady next to him (likely Campaspe who was his mistress) and the painter Apelles (his court painter) standing next to them holding a brush. Fancy gold band around the well edge with raised details to it. The rim has some spectacular designs on it typical for this period of lots of gold designs on different ground colors. Lots of raised elements to the gold designs. A really nice design with a historical piece of art to the center. An amazing example of what the Vienna factory could do! And best of all the plate is in superb condition with a tiny bit of wear to the gilding along the edge in two or three tiny spots. The plate is 9.625 inches in diameter and 1.375 inches tall. It is marked with the under glaze blue shield mark underneath as well as an impressed 98 plus the title of the scene in black - Alexander und Apelles. Please email me for more information or photos.
