Popoff Scenic Cup & Saucer - As Is

This is a rare scenic cup and saucer made by Popoff around 1820. Alexander Popoff founded the factory near Moscow in the early 19th century. The products were highly sought after and from 1810 until 1830 they produced the best quality wares. The factory was closed in 1872. The center of the saucer has a nice little landscape scene in it with a gold trim line around the edge of the well and a thick gold band along the rim edge with a thinner line under that. The cup has a landscape scene covering a good half of the cup with a thick gold band to the bottom edge as well as top edge (inside and outside) with a thin gold band under that. Gold trim to the handle. Hard to distinguish these sets from paris porcelaine xcept for the colors are slightly different and each piece has an impressed number in the paste plus off course the under glaze blue AT looking mark as shown. The cup also has a tiny black number 8 under the mark likely a painter's mark. The cup is in superb condition while the saucer sadly has a large hairline as well as a rim chip that was gilded in to hide it a little better. Still a rare set to find and a good learning example. The cup is 2.5 inches tall with a diameter of 2.625 inches. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 5.125 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
