Superb Popov Plate

This is a superb polychrome plate made by Popov around 1830. Alexander Popoff founded the factory near Moscow in the early 19th century. The products were highly sought after and from 1810 until 1830 they produced the best quality wares. The factory was closed in 1872. The center of the plate has a colorful hand painted scene to it including flowers, berries and even a superb pineapple fruit as well as their leaves on a light grey ground. The central scene is surrounded by a white open space with the edge of the well having a nice gold trim to it. What really makes the plate look amazing is the rim design! The rim has a nice blue ground color to it with four floral panels painted over that with a relief design that is gilded coming down from the edge in between the floral panels. The nicely shaped edge is gilded as well. A stunning plate for sure! The plate is in superb condition with some minor wear to the gilding mainly from stacking to four areas along the edge of the well where there is a slight relief design that meant the blue color wore off a touch in strainght lines as shown. It matches in all four spots so it blends in perfectly with the design. A brown firing spot to the underside as shown from when it was made. The piece is marked underneath with the under glaze Popow AT looking mark, a blue number 5 below that an impressed number 28 (I think) as shown. The plate is 0.875 inches tall and 9.375 inches in diameter.
