Rudolf Sieck Sugar Dish

This is a very hard to find Art Nouveau sugar dish with its lid made by Nymphenburg in the early 20th century. The form was designed by Adelbert Niemeyer around 1905 and is model number 108. This became one of the design classics of the Germany Jugendstil and Nymphenburg itself off course. The decoration was designed by the famous Rudolf Sieck around the same time. The original designed pieces would have been all hand painted but after Sieck left due to a fight with Niemeyer around 1908 the outlines were stencilled and then colored in as is the case here. The sugar dish has bouquet of flowers on grey ground to the front and back side with a single flower under each handle. The scene is surrounded by a gold trim with a simple gold trim to the top edge. The lid edge also has a gold trim to it, three single small flowers and a funny finial that looks like a pot filled with pebbles - not sure what that is meant to be!? A rectangular handle to each side. A top quality piece that is very elegant! The piece is is marked underneath with a partial impressed shield mark and number and some letters and numbers in black as shown. The piece is in perfect condition. It is 3.5 inches tall, 5.25 inches from handle to handle and just under 4 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
