Rudolf Sieck Cup & Saucer #1

This is a very hard to find Art Nouveau cup and saucer made by Nymphenburg in the early 20th century. The form was designed by Adelbert Niemeyer around 1905 and is model number 108. This became one of the design classics of the Germany Jugendstil and Nymphenburg itself off course. The decoration was designed by the famous Rudolf Sieck around the same time. The original designed pieces would have been all hand painted but after Sieck left due to a fight with Niemeyer around 1908 the outlines were stencilled and then colored in as is the case here. The cup has a bouquet of flowers on grey ground surrounded by a gold trim to the front with a single flower to the front and back side as well as the inside bottom. The saucer has three single flowers around the outside and one in the center well. Both pieces have a simple gold trim to the top edge. A top quality piece that is very elegant! The set is marked underneath with their green shield mark with Nymphenburg under it as well as the impressed numbers 108 and 2 and some letters and numbers in black as shown under the saucer and simply XII. in black under the cup. Both pieces are in perfect condition. The cup is 2.25 inches tall and 3.25 inches in diameter. The saucer is 0.625 inches tall with a diameter of 5.625 inches.
