Fish Scene Plate #1

This is a very unusual plate made by Nymphenburg in the 20th century. I have not seen this type of design before and even after searching for quite a while through the books and online only found one other place that sold this design. It seems to have been an entire dinner set that they made with this fish decor since that auction included tureens as well as sauce dishes and the dinner plates. Maybe it was a special commission since it is not in the Nymphenburg books either - not sure. Either way the plate is superbly hand painted with a fish motif in the center including two larger fish as well as a smaller one with a nice surrounding of some greenery and water. The rim is has a really nice basketweave design to it with little greenery scenes as well as different contraptions to catch fish with and an insect. Nice gold trim to the edge. The painting and the plate are of the best quality. A really nice design and definitely rare. The plate is marked with the impressed shield mark as well as the underglaze green shield mark with the word Nymphenburg underneath and a black numbers 1693 and 242 as well as Mairenke ( Danube bleak or Caspian shemaya ) and Gruendling ( Gudgeon ) which are the fish on the front. The piece is in perfect condition. It is 1.125 inches tall and 9.75 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
