Commedia Dottore Figurine

This is a polychrome figurine from the Commedia dell'arte aka the Italian Comedy series made by Nymphenburg in the late 20th century. These were first modelled by Franz Anton Bustelli, regarded as one of the best porcelain sculptors, in about 1760 and are still as popular as ever today! And one can see why with the superb and lifelike poses and great attention to detail! The painted pieces are harder to find than the white ones but I like either versions the same. This figurine here is Il Dottore , one of the older characters from the commedia who is single. Not the brightest but full of confidence. His partner figurine would be Donna Martina. The figurine is superbly modeled with lots of detail and hand painted very nciely. The peice looks stunning and is in perfect condition. The figurine is about 7.75 inches tall, 3.35 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep. The piece is marked with the impressed shield mark on top of the base on the large smooth scroll in the back as well as another impressed shield mark underneath and impressed number 91 over incised number 28 as shown. Some painter's marks in black on the udnerside as well. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1249
