Blanc de Chine Pantalone Commedia dell'Arte Figurine

This is a superb figurine from the Commedia dell'arte aka the Italian Comedy made by Nymphenburg in the early 20th century. This figure is of Pantalone ( Pantaloon ) and is one of the most important principal characters found in commedia dell'arte. With his exceptional greed and high in society he is the "money" in the commedia world. His full name, including family name, is Pantalon de' Bisognosi , Italian for 'Pantalone of the Needy'. The figurine is superbly modeled and left in the white to show off all that nice detail. First designed by the best porcelain modeler of the 18th century - the famous Franz Anton Bustelli - it is just one elegant and fun piece to look at. The figure is 7 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide and 4.375 inches deep. The piece is marked with the impressed shield mark underneath and incised numbers 57 over II. I think this is one of the early redos after the molds got destroyed. The figurine is in great condition with a few tiny black spots and the tip of his hat feels rough so there must be the tiniest of nibbles. He displays perfectly!
