Chinese Bigwig Figurine

This is a figurine of a wealthy Chinese person sitting on top of a pedestal made by Nymphenburg in the late 20th century. It is described as the bigwig by Nymphenburg which just made me smile. It comes from a series of 17 or 18 figurines I think - this being the center piece which I have only seen once before for sale so it is fairly rare. Originally it was off course modelled by Bustelli in the 18th century. This is the blanc de chine version but they also offer the painted one though I have never seen it for resale! I own a few other pieces from this series as well and they are probably my favorite figures besides the commedia dell'Arte off course. The figure has the grumpy looking gentleman sitting on top of a pillow that is resting on the pedestal. An urn in front of him as well as some flowers. A goat's head adornes the front of the pedestal and there are some more flowers and leaves along the bottom base. A really fun piece and the only grumpy looking figure I can recall in the world of porcelain! My kind of guy :) This piece is amazingly modeled and one can see why Bustelli is still considered the greatest modeler of all time. The entire piece is 10.5 inches tall, 4.625 inches wide and 5.25 inches deep. It is in perfect condition! The figurine is marked with the impressed shield mark to the front of the base and underneath as well as the impressed numbers 331 and an incised 26. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
