Ganymede & Eagle Figurine

This is a superb figurine of a young gentleman with an eagle by his side made by Niderviller in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is most likely meant to represent Ganymede (a Trojan prince) and the eagle would be Zeus who abducted him to bring him to Olympus. Ganymede thus became immortal and the cup bearer of the gods. Eventually he was turned into the constellation Aquarius . This is the type of figurine Niderviller is famous for - the white biscuit, very detailed, fun pieces. The detail is amazing on this piece with the base being covered by a cloud, the feathers of the eagle and the cloth covering the mid section of the young man. The piece is quite heavy for its size being made of one solid piece of porcelain with no airholes - something quite typical of Niderviller. The figurine is in perfect condition which always helps :) And it is even marked underneath as shown which is not the norm. Most of their figures are unmarked. The figure is 6.5 inches tall, 2.75 inches wide and 2.25 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $999
