Nevers Execution Scene Faience Plate

This is a rare faience bowl / plate made in Nevers around the late 18th century. It has a hand painted scene of the execution of King Louis the 16th on January 21 , 1793 . I don't know a whole lot of about this sort of ware but from everything I could find it looks to be a rare original period piece. I found an idential plate with more damage described at a French auction as ASSIETTE en faïence de grand feu polychrome " Exécution de Louis Capet 21 janvier 1793 " " L'An second de la République française " that sold for 4100 Euros. The bowl is in great condition for this sort of ware and age. It has a lot of little firing black spots and the rim has the glaze worn off. No chips or repairs or such. The scene has three tiny spots that do not have any glaze that look like some sort of firing support was in the bowl from when it was made. I am assuming they stacked multiple pieces on top of one another that way when they fired them as there are more spots on the underside from supports. Something a little different from what I usually buy and a whole lot more macabre :) I guess this is how they spread the news back in the day. The piece is unmarked but is definitely from the Nevers region of France. It is 1.5 inches tall with a diameter of about 9 inches. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1999
