Naples Roman Lady Scenic Cup & Saucer

This is a rare and fun cup and saucer made by Naples in the later 18th century. The Capodimonte factory existed near Naples from 1743 until 1759. It had little to do with the Naples factory which was founded by Ferdinand IV in 1771. It was around until 1806 when the French occupied it and after that the molds, etc. were sold all over the place. The set is hand painted with a superb scene of a Roman lady sitting in a settee type bench with a marble ti;e floor and some columns in the background. The scene on the saucer is a nice ladnscape scene. Both pieces are decorated with some amazing gilding all around quite typical of the nicer pieces for this maker. The handle shape is also very nice and differes slightly from the Paris pieces in that the little inside tip is larger and curves upward but does not connect with the cup. A very elegant cup of superb quality by a hard to find maker! The set is in great condition with some minor wear to the gilding in the center of the saucer where the cup sits. Niether piece is marked which is failry normal. The cup stands 2.5 inches tall, 2.625 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 5.125 inches in diameter.
