Ferdinandea Naples Putto Scene Cup & Saucer #2

This is a rare cup and saucer made in Naples , Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea in about 1790. The Capodimonte factory existed near Naples from 1743 until 1759. It had little to do with the Naples factory which was founded by Ferdinand IV in 1771 and was around until 1806 when the French occupied it and after that the molds, etc. were sold all over the place. The set is hand painted with a superb scene of a cherub / amorini sleeping while sitting with his head resting on his hand. His arm is placed on a rock base he is sitting on with his quiver and bow by his feet. A lake in the background as well as some mountains. The well of the saucer has a gold ring around it and the rim has a nice gold trim to it. Same gold trim on the cup with a typically shaped handle for this maker. Nice gold design to the bottom inside fo the cup as well. I don't recall having seen a saucer that was so beautifully painted and then the cup just had the gold trim to it. Normally it would be the other way around. The porcelain is thin and of superb quality. It is made of hard paste porcelain though it is extremely fine in quality. The set is in perfect condition but has an old firing line to the rim of the saucer which is why you have those gold designs to the underside as shown. One covers that flaw and the others were painted to make it more even. This is not a newer hairline but from the original making of the piece! Some very minor wear to the gilding. The cup and saucer are not marked except for an incised A8 underneath the saucer as shown. The cup stands 2.375 inches tall, 2.25 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1 inch tall and 5.5 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
