Ferdinandea Naples Putto Scene Cup & Saucer #1

This is a rare cup and saucer made in Naples , Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea in about 1790. The Capodimonte factory existed near Naples from 1743 until 1759. It had little to do with the Naples factory which was founded by Ferdinand IV in 1771 and was around until 1806 when the French occupied it and after that the molds, etc. were sold all over the place. The set is hand painted with a superb scene of a putto sleeping on a blue cloth on the ground with the quiver in front of him and a cave entrance behind him. Moutains in the background. The well of the saucer has a gold ring around it and the rim has a nice gold trim to it. Same gold trim on the cup with a typically shaped handle for this maker. Nice gold design to the bottom inside fo the cup as well. I don't recall having seen a saucer that was so beautifully painted and then the cup just had the gold trim to it. Normally it would be the other way around. The porcelain is thin and of superb quality. It is made of hard paste porcelain though it is extremely fine in quality. The set is in perfect condition with some minor factory flaws typical to their pieces and some very minor wear. The most obvious flaw can be seen in the quiver where a bubble burst and left the top layer missing. Not really obvious and looks as if part of the design. The cup and saucer are not marked except for an incised A8 underneath the saucer as shown. The cup stands 2.375 inches tall, 2.25 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1 inch tall and 5.5 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
