Naples Ointment Pot

This is a nice lidded ointment / lotion jar / pot made by Naples , Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea , in the 18th century. Not a maker one finds pieces from very often and I ahve not ever come across one of the pieces before by them. In French these are called pot a fard or pommade (for makeup or ointment cream) and I ahve seen them in French porcelain much more often than any others. The entire main body and lid are hand painted with a band of light and dark purple with yellow and red flowers and gold leaves. Gold trim to the top of the finial as well as along the rims. Black trim to the edges. It's a great looking piece and a rare survivor. The dish and lid are in great condition with a small chip to the top edge of the lid as shown and a touch of wear to the gilding. Some discoloration to the bottom of the lid and to spots inside the main body likely from use back in the days which was sort of the point. The piece is 2.875 inches tall including the finial with a diameter of 2.375 inches. The main body is marked underneath with the crown over N mark in under glaze blue as shown as well as some incised marks. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
