Ferdinandea Ceramic Group

This is a large figural group made by Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea of Naples in Italy in the late 18th century. The subject is the Farnese Bull originally made in Marble but this figurine here was maodeled by the famous Filippo Tagliolini in porcelain and also in this creamware type of ceramic as we have here. A large figure including two ladies as well as two males fighting with the bull in the center and a child watching. Lots of small details including relief figurines of animals along the edge of the base. The piece is in amazing condition considering the age and fragile nature of this type of ceramic. There are a few very minor glaze wear spots, one leg of one of the men has a hairline in it, one lady is missing two fingers, the rope that went from the hands of the one male to the bull's head is missing and there used to be a dog in front of the bull with the hind legs in the base and the front legs high up that is now missing. I didn't even realize it until I found the original marble sculpture online so it is not obvious at all when on display! All in all in very good condition considering this stuff is even more fragile than porcelain. The figurine is not marked but that's normal but it is a know sculpture by them. The figurine is 14 inches tall and the base is 11.25 inches wide and 11.75 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
