Moore Brothers Pate sur Pate Vase

This is a vase made by Moore Brothers in England in the late 19th century. The factory was St. Mary's Works in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent and operated from 1872 until 1905. They made tableware as well as lots of neat and high quality decorative pieces. This here is one of those pieces. I have seen this shape called Moon flask as well as Pilgrim flask. A shape made at both Minton and at Moore Bros. The vase has a nice shape to it with a little handle to each side. Gold trim to the top edge, handles and bottom edge which looks nice with the dark chocolate colored ground color. The front has a nice pate-sur-pate design of a putto spinning a spider web while sitting on a tree stump with one branch coming off it. A really nice design. The vase is about 10 inches tall, 7.75 inches wide and 4.5 inches deep. Not marked but that is not unusual for them. Now for the bummer part of the description. There is wear to the gilding of the handles and the top opening would have been a bit flared - it was ground down likely because of heavy chipping. Not terrible but... The entire piece has crazing to the glaze which is most visible in the putto of the pate sur pate design. The back of the vase has some scratches to it especially in one spot . That being said it is still a nice piece wothy of displaying! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
