1740's Cup & Saucer

This is an early cup and saucer made by Meissen in about 1745. Both pieces are handpainted with superb floral arrangements as well as single flowers in the woodcut style before the Deutsche Blumen style took hold. These flowers are much more natural looking and much more detailed than later ones. They have a gold trim to the rim and the handle as well as a nice basket weave design to the rim area. The set is in superb condition with very little wear. The saucer is about 1 inch tall and 5.25 inches in diameter. The cup is 1.875 inch tall and 3.25 inches in diameter. There is an impressed 42 underneath the cup and a 63 underneath the saucer. Both pieces are marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark that are straight.
