Awesome Pre 1740 Plate

This is a very nice early plate made by Meissen in about 1735. It is hand painted in under glaze blue in the center with a flowering shrub surrounded by a double blue ring trim, an under glaze blue design to the rim from which three superb Kakiemon colored flowers sprout into the plate. Brown trim to the edge. This type of plate you very rarely come across. I did find one other one that was a bit nicer but with some damage that sold for over 5K. It's a superb looking plate that is very ealry and the decoration is unusual so I can see why it brought that type of price! The piece is marked with the early under glaze blue crossed swords mark underneath with a blue painter's mark " or 11 on the foot ring and a dreher's mark X as shown. The piece is in superb condition with a very minor touch of wear but the underside has a manufacturing chip to the foot ring and a large manufacturing flaw to the rim from where there was an impurity in the porcelain paste that bruned away during the high heat of the firing process. Not a plate you will find again anytime soon if ever. The plate is 1 inch tall and has a diameter of 8.5 inches. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $3499
