U-Boat Scene Plate

This is a rare blue and white porcelain plate made by Meissen in 1916. It is decorated with the coat of armor of the city of Bremen on the rim - a shield with a key in it. In the center it has an under glaze blue sceneof the freight U-boat Deutschland which would later be converted to the war submarine U155 and used by the Kriegsmarine of Germany. In the scene here it is nicely decorated with a flag garland likely for its maiden voyage. In the background there is a light house and the waves of the ocean surround the ship. Underneath the scene there is the name of the boat - Frachttauchboot " Deutschland ". It's rare to find pieces with subs on it. A very nice looking plate. It is in perfect condition and is 1.125 inches tall and 9.875 inches in diameter. The piece is marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords as well as the usual impressed marks, a blue painter's mark 5., the date August 1916 and two holes with a string in them for hanging though I would not use that anymore. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
