Scenic Fork

This is a rare fork made by Meissen in about 1750 plus or minus 5 years. Hard to date exactly since the metal parts are a later English replacement but the colors and style are from about 1750 in terms of the porcelain. The handle is nicely modeled with a relief design and handpainted on both the front and the back with a Watteau style scene including two people in a landscape surrounding with a black outline. The ferrule between the handle and the fork itself are made of silver. The silver is nicely marked as shown but I am clueless in that department so I'll leave that to the experts in Silver. The metal part goes into the handle and there is a spot coming out on the other end to fasten it in place which was only done on early pieces! The fork is in superb condition with a tiny bit of wear. The fork is 6.75 inches long of which 2.75 inches is the length of the visible porcelain handle. The handle is about 0.75 inches wide. The porcelain is not marked or shall we say visibly marked since it would be hidden by the ferrule which is normal but it is definitely made by Meissen. Forks are even rarer than knives to find so this is a real treat! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
