Royal Court Bakery Plate

This is a rare treat - a plate from the green Watteau ( grünes Watteau ) service made for the royal court of Saxony by Meissen in 1749 and it is from this original period. It is hand painted with a mostly copper green Watteau scene in the center inckuding a couple in a landscape surrounding and four floral arrangements on the rim. Gold trim to the edge and the Gotskowsky relief design to the paste which means nice flower garlands in releif along the edge of the well and flowers in relief in four sections along the rim between the hand painted flower panels. This service was modeled by J.F. Eberlein. The plate is in superb condition with some flaking to the yellow paint of the flowers and one spot along the edge was ground down a tiny bit but that was during the manufacturing since the gilding is original along this spot. Some tiny firing flaws normal to these early pieces. The plate is 1.375 inches tall and has a diameter of 9.75 inches so a nice size. It is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark underneath as shown, an impressed 22, three dots in orange in a triangle shape as a painter's mark and the K.H.C. in puce for Königliche Hof Conditorei (royal court bakery).
