Cobalt Blue Watteau Scene Flowers Tea Caddy

This is a superb small lidded tea caddy / jar made by Meissen in the late 19th or early 20th century. I have never seen a caddy of this shape in this pattern. Definitely a rare example! The piece has everything going for it - a nice shape with the shoulders and the pine cone finial, the amazing cobalt blue ground with fancy gold combo, the nice floral scene and especially the Watteau style scene! That combo is as nice as it gets and it does not come better than this from this period that is for sure. The caddy is hand painted with a panel of a polychrome floral arrangement on white ground and a Watteau style scene including a gentlemean and a lady in a landscape surrounding. The panels are both surrounded by a fancy gilding with the rest of the set having that superb deep cobalt blue ground color with more fancy gold trim all over. The shoulders and the lid have a matching gold trim and there is a gold design to the side panels of the main body. Really a nice look! The set is in perfect condition. It is marked with the blue crossed swords mark underneath as well as the usual impressed numbers as shown. First choice (it just looks like there are lines across the swords but thre are no cut marks!) The piece with the lid in place is 3.25 inches tall, 2.125 inches wide and 1.375 inches deep.
