Early Flying Squirrel / Red Fox Dish

This is an early 18th century Meissen dish dating to about 1730. Some sort of serving dish. It is oval in shape and has a handle to either side. It is hand painted with one of the most famous designs called the Flying Squirrel or Red Fox pattern based on the Kakiemon designs from Japan. Banded hedges with Kakiemon style flowers coming out fo them with the yellow squirrel roaming on top of them and the red fox above. Nice cross hatch type rim decor called the Sulkowski design in relief. Brown trim to the edge. A superb dish that is 1.375 (2.5 at the handles) inches tall, 10.125 inches wide and 7.375 inches deep. It is marked underneath with the early Meissen blue crossed swords in under glaze blue. The dish displays perfectly but one of the handles has been off and reglued with the end scroll on the one side being chipped as shown. A firing crack to the edge and some minor firing flaws one finds on these very early pieces. There is no wear to the decoration and the piece looks stunning! The porcelain of this period is much whiter than that of any other period and the colors just amazing. The handle would be a very easy fix for any restorer!
