Chinese Butterfly Kakiemon Bowl

This is a superb small bowl made by Meissen before 1740. It has a really ncie lobed shape to it with their typical brown trim to the edge and is decorated with the Chinese Butterfly Kakiemon design. The center has the hand painted butterfly sitting on a branch that is super colorful and is surrounded by various Kakiemon designs - three larger ones as well as two smaller ones, a little bug and some leaves / tiny flowers covering manufacturing flaws. The quality is superb and the Kakiemon colors never disappoint plus the early porcelain looks nicer than the later ones in terms of the paste. So the shape, age and decoration combo in this case is very hard to beat! A stunning looking piece! The bowl is in great condition with a little wear to the decoration, some wear to the brown edge trim and a firing crack from when it was made shown from both the inside and outside. Outside is fully glazed so not a hairline! Some other very some minor firing faults which is to be expected when you get close to 300 years old. No chips, restorations, etc. The dish is just over 2.375 inches tall and 7.875 inches in diameter. Marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark as shown - no number yet which they strated using after 1740 so definitely a nice early example. Even the shape reminds me of Japanese porcelain and the Kakiemon colors and designs are definitely coming from there as well. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
