Zarf Cup Holder

This is a very rare piece made by Meissen in the mid 18th century. It is a cup holder known as a Zarf. A zarf is a holder that is placed around a cup to protect the holder's fingers from the heat of the drink. Zarfs are often used for cups without handles. Could be a small porcelain Koeppchen or a metal (possibly silver or even gold in this case) fincan cup. I have not seen one from the 18th century before! The piece has a reticulated top with a little base. The inside bottom has a small hand painted floral arrangement to it. A very delicate piece so probably an extremely rare survivor. The piece is in great condition with just a small chip to the top edge as shown which resulted in a hairline to that small top section. The piece displays superbly and is just waiting for a new inside cup. I am sure one could be made for it to complete it once again and that would make for an amazing look! The piece is marked underneath with the under glaze crossed swords mark from about 1750 as shown. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
