Blue Onion Open Salt Dish

This is an early open salt dish or trencher salt made by Meissen in about 1760. It has a nice shape to it and is hand painted with a bit of a different version of their famous Blue Oion design in the blue. The "onion" stalk in the top design has a different look to the top than the usual round floral type. Quite nice. The rest of the design around the edge is typical and there even is more of a design to the top edge which makes this one very nice piece. The dish is in superb condition with some expected very minor firing flaws common to the early pieces. It displays perfectly. The piece is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords underneath with the dot between them and the number 7. under it as the blue painter's mark. The salt dish is 1.375 inches tall, 3.25 inches wide and 2.625 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
