Cherub Scenes & Puce Scale Trim Pot

This is a lidded pot made by Meissen during the mid 18th century. I have not seen one of these by them but the type is fairly common in early French porcelain. Used for lotions or ointments. The piece dates to around 1740 and is superbly hand painted with two cherub scenes to both the main body and the lid with that amazing puce scape trim with gilding to the edge and flowers on the main body. A superb finial which is a bit of a mystery. Possible a pomegranate with some artist liberty taken. The piece is top notch! It is in superb condition with some minor chipping to the blossom end of the finial. The jar is not visibly marked underneath with the blue crossed swords mark but does have an incised number 8. It's not uncommon for the mark to burn off during the firing process on these early unglazed bases! The dish with the lid in place is 4 inches tall, 2.75 inches wide and 2.875 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1249
