Franz Ferdinand Mayer Hausmalerei Plate #1

This is an early and very special plate made by Meissen around 1750. What makes it special is that it was decorated by the famous Franz Ferdinand Mayer workshop in Pressnitz , Bohemia . He was active from about 1745 until 1776 and his items are rare and highly collectable. His style of decoration is very distinctive with that nice iron red color used to frame out the leaves and the tree, etc. The piece is hand painted with a superb scene in the well of the plate surrounded by a fancy gold trim. The scene is of a town scene including some buildings along a river with boats and people and a huge old tree to one side. The rim has four different but similar designs to it - they looks almost like a stylized sunflower. Gold trim to the edge. A really nice plate and not one you'll come across anytime soon again. This is really a superb example of his work in the typical colors and style. The plate is in superb condition with a touch of wear to the fancy gold trim - it displays perfectly and looks amazing! It is 1.25 inches tall and 9.25 inches in diameter. The pieces is marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark underneath as shown as well as a gold 12 and a letter B. The 12 looks to be covering up an impressed number. The mark looks more modern than the usual ones from this period but it is definitely by him from this period.
