Franz Ferdinand Mayer Hausmalerei Plate #2

This is an early and very special plate made by Meissen around 1750. What makes it special is that it was decorated by the famous Franz Ferdinand Mayer workshop in Pressnitz , Bohemia . He was active from about 1745 until 1776 and his items are rare and highly collectable. His style of decoration is very distinctive with that nice iron red color used to frame out the flowers, etc. The piece is hand painted with a superb scene in the well of the plate surrounded by gold trim with a thin red line alongs its edge. The scene is of a farmer holding a pitchfork and a pitcher standing enxt to a ruin with a church in the background as well as a grotto and a cross. The rim has four different designs to it - two are floral arrangements, one is a fruit and leaves arrangement and the last is a neat bird standing on a branch. A really nice plate and not one you'll come across anytime soon again. This is really a superb example of his work in the typical colors and style. The plate is in great condition with a touch of wear and some tiny nibbles along the very edge. He bought the white ware from meissen and that was usually not perfect (it would be called second chocie nowadays) and thus the cups are often out of round and I suspect the nibbles are the from before it was decorated. The piece displays perfectly and looks amazing! It is 1.125 inches tall and 9 inches in diameter. The pieces is marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark underneath as shown from about 1745-50 and an impressed number ashsown.
