Korean Lion Plate

This is an early 18th century Meissen dish dating to about 1735. It is handpainted with one of thenicest of the Kakiemon designs called the Korean Lion pattern based on the Kakiemon designs from Japan. It includes what is called the lion, a crane, a may bug indian flowers and bugs. Nice cross hatch type rim decor called the Sulkowski Ozier design in relief. The plate is 1.125 inches tall and 9.125 inches in diameter. It is marked underneath with the early Meissen blue crossed swords underglaze with the hilts being made up of big dots as well as an impressed E on the footring. The dish is in great condition for the age with very little wear but there is a flat rim chip which was repaired or reglued and badly overpainted (one of those overkill jobs typical of older restorations) some of which is coming off again. It would be an easy as well as cheap fix these days. The Kakiemon colors of these early plates is amazing! Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1499
