Kakiemon Pot de Creme

This is a lidded cup / pot au jus / pot de creme / hot chocolate / custard cup made by Meissen in about 1740. It is very rare to find one of these early pieces with its original lid! Both pieces are hand painted with superb Kakiemon style design with different floral elements as well as two bugs on the lid and a nice pine cone finial. Brown trim to the edge of the lid and a red design to the handle. Kakiemon designs are always superb especially the colors! A really nice looking lidded cup! The set displays perfectly but upon very close inspection one finds the finial has been reattached and the handle has had some work done to it as well. Perfectly done so one cannot spot it when on display. The lid is a tiny bit too large for the opening of the cup so it does not sit all the way inside the opening. Kind of nice as it is tight when put in place. The set is 3 inches tall and 2.75 inches in diameter. The cup is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark from this period underneath as well as an impressed number 6 and a dot next to it as shown. The dot is a Dreher's mark.
