Danhoeffer Hausmalerei Tea Cup

This is a very early teabowl cup made by Meissen in about 1720 and most likelyy decorated by Danhöffer ( J.P. Dannhoffer ) at Bayreuth. Timing is difficult in terms of the painting. Some places say it is at the same time as when the porcelain was made and others a bit later around 1740. It is hand painted with a chinoiserie scene all around including an Oriental gentleman figure next to a purple bird with some shrubs and buldings filling in the rest of the piece. These early Meissen Hausmalerei pieces are becoming hard to find and really are fun to look at :) This is just a superb piece and almost as early as it comes for Meissen. It will still be Boettger porcelain which is so thin and nice. The cup is in good condition with wear to the gilding - not bad on the outside but the inside is worn. The outside also has a firing flaw as shown which resulted in a very small star hairline that stained on the inside and tehre is either a glaze chip or another firing flaw to the bottom inside next to the stained spot. It's damage but not too bad and it being so early more than makes up for that I think. The cup is unmarked but obviously Meissen. It does have a Dreher's mark / to it. The cup is 1.625 inches tall and 3.125 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1499
