This is an early and very special cup and saucer made by Meissen around 1750. What makes it special is that it is a child's cup and decorated by the famous Franz Ferdinand Mayer in Pressnitz , Bohemia . He was active from about 1745 until 1776 and his items are rare and highly collectable. The set is handpainted with a superb scene on the saucer of three people dressed mainly in orange in a landscape surrounding with a superb gold trim on the rim. The cup has a nice flower painted on the inside witht he same superb gold trim. The outside of the cup and saucer have the raised prunus blossom design to it that was painted on the cup but not on the saucer. Franz Ferdinand Mayer liked to paint this particular style of cup from Meissen. This is really a superb example of his work in the typical colors and style. The cup and saucer are in perfect condition with the tiniest amount of wear to the gilding. The cup is 1.375 inches tall and 2.5 inches in diameter. The saucer is 0.875 inches tall and has a diameter of 4 inches. The pieces are marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark underneath as shown from about 1745-50.
