1740's Floral & Bugs Cup #8

This is a very early and superb cup and saucer set made by Meissen in about 1740-1745. The shape is superb and the decoration is top as well. This is the shorter wider version of the ten cups I have for the set. For tea I presume. The colors are a bit stronger than in the pictures in real life for some reason. There is a large floral arrangement handpainted on the front and then there are lots of bugs and a small flower scattered throughout as well. From a small fly to the gorgeous large butterfly. Nice and rare handle shape as well! Nice brown trim on the rims. The flowers on these pieces are much more natural looking and much more detailed than later ones. The cup and saucer are in good condition with a tight hairline from the rim of the cup to the right of the yellow tulip. Not easy to spot at all! Also a small chip to the end of the cup handle and to the footring. The cup is just over 2 inches tall, 3.5 inches from front to back without the handle and just under 3 inches wide. The saucer is 1.25 inches tall, 5.375 inches wide and 4.75 inches deep. Both pieces are marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark underneath. There is an impressed 3 underneath the saucer. This is one of the cups and saucers to the rest of the set I have up on the site. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
