Harbor Scene Beaker Cup & Saucer

This is a really nice and early beaker style chocolate cup and saucer made by Meissen in about 1740. Both are superbly hand painted by Christian Friedrich Herold by the looks of it with a very nice harbor / merchant type scene in the center of the saucer that is surrounded by a double red line trim and a scene all around the cup with the double red line trim under it. Simple gold trim to the edges as well as the handle which has a typical shape for this early period. The scenes are of very good quality with people in them as well as ships, clouds, birds, buildings and even a donkey, etc. These types of scenes are amazing! The set is in perfect condition which is always great with just a touch of gold wear. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and has a diameter of 5.125 inches and the cup is just under 2.75 inches tall with a diameter of 2.75 inches. Both are marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark with the cup having a gold letter D under it as well and the saucer an impressed number so this set dates right around 1740.
