Early Blue Onion Candlestick

This is a rare early candlesticks made by Meissen around 1730. It matches the pair from this period I already own. The candleholder is nicely modeled and is hand painted with a very early version of the blue onion design in that nice blue color you don't find later on anymore. It has a really very attractive shape and looks superb on my dining room table along with the other pair. The piece displays superbly and is in superb condition except for a small firing crack along the column part as shown. Much nicer condition than the pair! The stick is of a very nice size being 9.375 inches tall with the base having a diameter of 6 inches. Very stable unlike many other candle holders these days. It is marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark with the dots as shown - and yes I know this mark is normally associated with the 1760s but it was also used in the 1730s. No impressed numbers which is another sign of them being early. One of other pair of sticks even has a bossierer's mark which is another sure sign of them being early but this one here does not. Blue painter's mark R under the mark as well. A really ncie early piece that is in great condition and looks superb! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
