Woodcut Flowers Open Salt Dish

This is an early open salt dish or trencher salt made by Meissen in about 1735. It is hand painted with a verye arly Blue Oion design in the deep blue color that later got lost and one rarely sees anymore. I love this shade of blue and it suits the design more than the newer color I think. The salt dish has a nice shape to it with the center inside painted with a flower and all along the edge is the typical design including the "onions" which are really peaches and pomegrantes. Nice little flowers long the top edge. A stunning piece that you will not come across again anytime soon. The piece is in superb condition with some expected firing flaws common to the very early pieces and a small chip to the bottom rim as shown which does not take away from the piece. The piece is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords underneath with the mumber 37. under it as shown. the salt dish is 1.375 inches tall, 3.25 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep.
