Hoeroldt Chinoiserie Slop Bowl

This is a superb waste bowl or slop bowl made by Meissen in about 1730-1735. The piece is hand painted with a great pucple (sometimes called Blackberry ) ground color that is uneven in color which which produces a superb effect of depth but the best part is that is has five top notch Chinoiserie scenes painted by Johann Gregorius Höroldt on it. Four on the sides of the piece and one on the bottom inside. These are of top quality and a lot of fun to look at. The guy had some imagination!! The scenes on the outside are surrounded by a simple gold trim while the inside one is more typical with the fancy gilding as well as Böttger lustre and red and purple scroll work. The inside rim has some nice gilding in four sections. The Chinoiserie scenes are really detailed and have the all important green color in them. The piee displays superbly with a tiny bit of wear to the purple-ground color and the inside rim has three chips - none that are bad. One chip has a hairline going down from it which someone has tried to play around with and the inside rim gilding in that area is worn and the outside has some wear in that area as well. Not bad at all and it still rings like a bell. WOuld be an easy fix for a good restorer! The inside scene has some minor wear to the one figure but like I said before it displays perfectly as is and is truly a stunning piece! The bowl is marked underneath with their under glaze blue crossed swords as well as an impressed mark on the foot ring as shown - typical for early pieces! The piece is 3.25 inches tall, 6.5 inches wide and 5.875 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
