Boettger Teabowl Cup w/ Seuter Gilding

This is a very early teabowl shaped cup made by Meissen in about 1720 and most likely decorated in Augsburg in the Abraham Seuter workshop between then and 1730. The porcelain looks to still be Böttger porcelain which was a type of hard paste porcelain used from 1713 until Boettger died in 1719 but was still in use until a few years later as well. The piece is hand painted with a chinoiserie type motif in gold called Goldchinesen on one half of the outside bowl including three figures and two birds on the other half. An extra figure carrying an umbrella to the bottom inside. Typical gilt border to the inside rim for this decorating studio as is the design under the scene. These early Meissen Hausmalerei pieces are becoming hard to find and really are fun to look at especially when the gilding is in good condition as is the case here. This is just a superb piece and almost as early as it comes for Meissen. The cup is in decent condition with some minor wear to the gilding and four chips along the top edge. One is minor, two are OK and one is larger. No hairlines though so it could easily be restored back to its former glory or enjoyed as is off course. The cup is unmarked as is common since most pieces were not marked before 1730 but it is quite but obviously Meissen. The cup is 1.75 inches tall and 2.875 inches in diameter.
