Boettger Steinzeug Mask

This is a fun wall decoration made by Meissen in the 20th century. It was first modeled by Alexander Struck in 1948 and is limited to 100 pieces according to the Meissen website. The mask is off Till Eulenspiegel - a leading character of an old German book. The piece is made of Böttgersteinzeug which is a sort of precursor to actual porcelain made at Meissen. It is extremely hard and more like a clay in terms of look. The expressive face with the funny looking head covering and the off center bowtie at the bottom make this a fun piece to look at! The eyes and mouth are open to the inside. It is superbly modeled with lots of detail. All brown as these always are. The piece is in perfect condition. It is about 10 inches tall, 7 inches wide and 4 inches deep. The piece is marked in the back with the word Boettger Steinzeug (Boettger Stoneware) as well as the usual impressed numbers and their impressed crossed swords mark with two cuts across denoting it being a second choice piece. Not sure why. The piece is in perfect condition with some stray white marks that should come off and ar mainly on the back side so don't show when on display. Hole in the back for hanging on the wall. It's a great piece! Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
