Chinoiserie Beaker

This is a very early cup made by Meissen in about 1725. It is handpainted with a chinoiserie scene and has the modelled arcarnus leaves highlighted with gold on the bottom part. This is just a superb piece and almost as early as it comes for Meissen. Had it looked at by a true expert in Germany and he agreed it is Boettger porcelain. The cup is in good condition with a restored chip to the rim where the figures are as well as a smaller one on the other side. A bit of the top rim gold has been redone. The rest is all original and in superb shape. The interesting thing is the provenance on this piece. It comes from the palace of Versailles and was restored by the restorer of the Louvre museum in France and was bought by a lady who I got it from. The cup is unmarked but obviously Meissen. Not sure of the painter but it is not Hoeroldt that much I can tell. It is probably either J.P Dannhöffer or Chr. D. Busch in Bayreuth. The cup is 3.125 inches tall and 2.625 inches in diameter at the top. It has a simple handle only which point to an early date as well since Kaendler said when he arrived that he needed to make some decent handles :) Please email me for more information or other pictures.
