Rare Hatpin Holder #2

This is a rare hat pin holder made by Meissen in about 1765 during the dot period. I have always wondered if Meissen made one of these back then as one sees so many more modern ones by different makers and the hat pins have been around for a long time. And here is the answer :) A hatpin is a decorative and functional pin for holding a hat to the head, usually by the hair. They are typically around 20 cm in length, with the pinhead being the most decorated part. Originally hand made individually and rather fancy in the 1830's they began making them using machines and they became cheaper and more common. Still often times very fancy! The holder here has a nice shape to is sitting on four feet with the top having large holes to fit the pins into. Four floral arrangements to the sides. Gold trim to the top edge and some of the molding of the feet. This piece does have a very decorative shape. It is in amazing condition with some wear to the gilding of the top edge. The piece is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords with the dot between the bottom on the underside as shown. It is 3.5 inches tall with a top diameter of 2.5 inches. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $999
